3rd February 2014
January 2014
Hello and welcome to Room 2 Tuis,
The Room 2 Tuis had a wonderful first
day back at school.
Have a peek at our blog page later
tonight to see some photos of our first day.
Swimming
Room 2 will be swimming tomorrow with
Room 1. Please ensure your child has their togs and towel. All items must be
clearly named. The boys will change in Room 1 and the girls will change in Room
2. Mrs Dever and myself wait on the veranda will children are changing, but if
assistance is needed, then both teachers are present in the class to help.
Reading
At Home
During week 1 and 2, I will be assessing
the children in reading, writing and maths. This week your child will bring
home a laminated poem for you to read together. Next week, guided reading will
start and books will be sent home Monday to Thursday and a library book will
come home on Friday. It is not uncommon for children’s reading levels to
regress over the summer holidays.
Duty
and Morning Meetings
Just to let you know I will not be in
class on the following mornings before school.
Tuesday - I have crossing patrol from
8.30am. The patrol finishes when the bell goes, so I will be in class about
9.55am.
Friday morning - all teachers have a
memo meeting from 8.15 to 8.40am.
Thursday - every fortnight (starting in
week 2) I have a Senior Teacher Meeting which is from 8.00 to 8.50am.
The Syndicate One newsletter will be
emailed on Friday.
Hello and welcome to Room 2 Tuis,
Here is some information about the
routines
and expectations in Room 2….
Work
at Home
Your child will bring home a notebook in
their home-pack. Inside the notebook is a blurb outlining work at home. This is
beneficial to your child’s progress, but I do understand how busy life is. Year One’s are often tired after a busy day,
so if your child is reluctant, just skip the home activities, especially taking
into account after-school clubs, crafts, sports and activities.
Library
Day
The Room 2 Tuis visit the library on
Friday. Your child will issue a book on Friday, they must have a library bag to
protect book. The book will then be returned the following Friday so they can
choose a new book. There is a library bag box in the class for your child to
place their library bag when they have finished reading it.
Pod
Day
The Room 2 Tuis visit the computer pod
on Friday. This is a chance for your child to learn about our school network,
logging on and off and using basic computer programmes, the internet and other
software we have installed.
Swimming
Days
The Room 2 Tuis swim on Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday. Please ensure your child has their togs and towel on these
days. All items must be clearly named. Your child is expected to be able to
undress and re-dress themselves independently. Of course, teachers are
available to assist, but wait outside the changing area. Your child may bring
goggles, although I do prefer children to swim without them. If your child does
require goggles, please teach them how to put them on without adult assistance. Our swimming sessions are short, and time
taken helping children with their clothes and goggles, shortens our
instructional swimming sessions. Swimming
will start on Tuesday 4th February.
Blog
Page
Room 2 Tuis have a blog page for you to
keep up-to-date with your child’s life at school. There are pages that include
information about school life, a teacher to parent page, and regular posts
displaying your child’s experiences at school. Please save the link below to your
bookmarks or favourites. http://room2tuis2014.blogspot.co.nz/
I would like to take this opportunity to
welcome you Room 2, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask.
Thanks
Mel McCorquindale
